As a newborn photographer in Farmington, Minnesota, I can confidently say—there’s nothing better than holding a fresh new baby. That soft skin, tiny fingers, and that unforgettable newborn scent are moments you’ll want to bottle up forever. They say the days are long, but the years are short, and as a mom myself, I know just how true that is. If only I could go back and hold my boys as newborns again! This stage passes in the blink of an eye, and capturing it through photography is something you will never regret.
Scheduling Your Session
The best time to book your newborn session is during your second trimester. This ensures we have plenty of time to plan and secure your session, as I only take a limited number of newborns each month. A common question I get is, “How do we schedule a session when I don’t know exactly when my baby will arrive?” Great question! I book newborn sessions based on due dates and allow flexibility for early or late arrivals. Once your little one is here, just send me a quick message, and we’ll finalize the perfect time—ideally within the first 7-14 days when those adorable sleepy poses are easiest to capture. Sessions are scheduled Monday through Friday, Mid-day to ensure the best lighting. I’ll provide a list of available dates once baby arrives.
Preparing for your Session
I know bringing a newborn to a photography session can feel overwhelming, but I’m here to make the experience completely stress-free! After booking, you’ll receive a detailed Newborn Planning Guide with tips on how to prepare. Once baby arrives, I’ll send another reminder with everything you need to know. My biggest piece of advice? Feed baby before you leave home! A full belly + a car ride = a sleepy baby, which is exactly what we want for those dreamy, curled-up poses. If you have a longer drive to my Farmington studio, even better—it usually lulls baby right to sleep! Once you arrive, you can sit back, relax, and let me take care of everything, from soothing to outfit changes.
Newborn Props & Styling
My studio is stocked with everything needed for a stunning newborn session. From cozy wraps, textured layers, and bonnets to delicate headbands and unique props—everything is carefully curated to create timeless, beautiful images. No need to bring a thing (unless you have a sentimental item you’d love to include!). Before your session, I’ll have you fill out a short questionnaire so I can customize your session to match your aesthetic. When you walk into the studio, everything will be set up and ready to go!
